Or a call to go play my game out now on android
For the last year and a half I have been happily employed as a software engineer at IUGO Mobile Entertainment. I last time I posted anything about my job was when I was first hired but I did not talk about any specifics … until now. Obviously I can’t go in to too much detail, company secrets and all, but I can give a general overview of the projects I have worked on.
When I started one of the first major projects I worked on was porting IUGO’s biggest game, Knights and Dragons from iOS to android. This game has gone on to be very successful on both platforms. You can currently see it as one of the top 10 grossing apps in the Canadian Google Play store. Knights and Dragons is a free to play game that features in app purchases. These types of games allow players to play the entire game for free and the game makers make a profit charging for things like cosmetic upgrades and time savers. Our games mainly focus on the later, but in no way are you required to pay any money. I played the game for about a year without spending a dime. Most of the people that do end up spending a lot of money are the ones that want to be at the top of the leaderboards.
The next major project I worked on was Rage of The Immortals, an iOS and Android game that like Knights and Dragons is free to play, but it changes the setting and a bunch of the core mechanics. This game was fun to work on because we were able to bring a lot of improvements to the code base that made things cleaner and at the same time more powerful. I am definitely the type of programmer that does not like to do things in some quick and dirty way, I prefer to take the time to do things right the first time. Some times this can lead to things taking a little longer in the short term but I have found that in the long term it can be a huge benefit when a feature needs to be debugged or revisited.
The latest project that I have been working on, and that I am currently the lead programmer on, is Battle Hackers. The project has been a lot of fun, I have learned a lot about the industry and programming in general. This project, unlike the last two, has been self published by IUGO. This has given me an interesting look in to what it takes to promote a game in a ever crowding market filled with competing free to play games. In other other words I think you should all go check out my game, it has some great art and is a lot of fun. Currently it available for all android devices in most major markets. You can find more details at Google Play.
