10 ) Sherlock – Not my favourite take on Sherlock Holms but this BBC series is still very good. The twist is that this version takes place in modern day with everything that that includes like cell phones and the internet, Watson even has a blog where he documents their adventures. The writing and the character work from both leads is what really stands out (I cant wait to see what Benedict Cumberbatch does in Star Trek Into Darkness) |

9 ) Shameless – I don’t exactly know what it is about the Gallaghers that has me coming back every season. The Gallaghers are a poor family live in some poor neighbourhood in Chicago where everything is working against them. There dad, played by William H Macy is a drunk who is constantly stealing from them and their mother has abandoned them. But what I love is that they never give up and always look on the bright side of life. And maybe one day, with some hard work and determination, they will conquer those immovable obstacles and free themselves. |

8 ) Spartacus: Vengeance – “Shackle will be struck from every slave upon our path, we will see our numbers grow, and when they have become legion we will face … the hordes of Rome again and the gods shall weep for their suffering.” |

7 ) The Killing – The two season arc of this series follows the mystery of who killed Rosie Larsen. The lead detectives are played by Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, two of the most unlikely partners, but amazingly complex characters. The acting from everyone is stellar and you really feel for the family of the victim. Plus the twist ending is incredible, you will never see it coming. |

6 ) Hell On Wheels – The second season builds on everything the first season did so well. It also upped the stakes in so many ways. The last episode of the season is some truly powerful stuff, on a higher level of quality then most movies. Also The country side of Alberta is always lovely and makes a great place to film a western. |

5 ) Community – Funniest show on TV, again the only comedy to make my list. Its a shame they replaced Dan Harmon as show runner, we will have to wait and see if the current season will hold up to the previous ones. My favourite episode from the last one involves everyone being turned in to video game avatars to play through a classic style adventure game. |

4 ) The Walking Dead – I know a lot of people where put off by the passing of the second season but I thought the ends completely justified the means. And the third season is full to the walls of intense action and character moments. This show holds nothing back and and no one is safe from getting offed. |

3 ) Game of Thrones – Winter is coming! I love that the concept of taking a complicated and deep book and converting it to a TV show in this manner. Nothing important is left out and the character work is out standing. My hope is that more complex novels get this kind of treatment as it can do a much better job then a movie ever could. |

2 ) Justified – Another outstanding season, Timothy Olyphant’s portrayal of Raylan Givens is badass. I love how we have this out standing, morally good guy too root for. He has completely earned that cowboy hat many times over. This show is also filled with a amazing supporting cast and guest appearances that do a amazing job of filling out the world. |

1 ) Breaking Bad – Even with only a half season last year this show was amazing. I love that this season was all about Walter finally realising what he has become. The actual moment that this happens is amazing. This has got to be one of the greatest character arcs ever told on TV, it completely lives up to its name. I cant wait for the second half of this final season later this year. |
