For some reason I write very little during the end of spring, beginning of fall. Maybe it’s because I have seen nothing to inspire me or maybe it’s because I am simply lazy. But enough of that, on to more important stuff like politics, American politics!
I find it a little sad that I spend way more time looking at American politics then that of my own country. But the truth is the politicians across the border have more effect on Canada then are own elected representatives. Canadians are so concerned about protecting there culture from American influence that they can’t see that their cultures are the same. Sure there are some differences: we can carry pot and they can carry guns. So when it comes to voting for the leader of our country I don’t care; if you recall I spoiled my ballet. Now this does not mean that I want our countries to merge into one; but what I am saying is that we should be less concerned that our cultures have merged. Last time I looked it is not the job of the government to control the culture of its people, that’s fascism.
I find the upcoming US election particularly interesting because of the major effect it will have. What will probably happen is that they will bring in some extreme democrat like the bitch Hilary Clinton that will nationalize everything and greatly increases the size of government. This in effect will push the country further towards communism then it is already going. Now my point in all this is that Bush also did these things meaning that nothing will change. It does not matter what candidate the American people vote for whether it be democrat or republican the results will be the same, the government will continue to grow and restrictions on personal freedoms will increase.
But all is not lost there is one candidate out there that is going against the trend and he is gaining support daily. I am of course talking of Ron Paul running under the republican ticket. He calls himself a constitutionalist and wants to return America to its original ways by decreasing the size and power of government. One of his big goals is to get rid of the Feudal Reserve by making the American dollar once again backed by gold and silver. He is also one of the only candidates that would bring home the troops from Iraq as soon as possible. The one problem I have with Ron is that he is Pro Life, but no one is perfect.
Up until recently the American press has been ignoring Ron Paul as a candidate, calling him a long shot with no chance. But his support continued to grow, thanks in part to the internet and a huge support from collage kids; and this is a country where it is very hard to get the young to vote. He has won countless debates even though he gets a fraction of the time and he has some of the biggest rallies even though he does not have the money to advertise. All this has forced the press to acknowledge his existence, Fox news now has him as one of the top 3 running as a republican.
Of course if Ron Paul does not interest you then you can throw your support behind Steven T Colbert who has just declared he is running for president. And why not, it only took his facebook group 8 days to get one million members (it took Brock Obama 9 months to reach 380,000).
Liberty don’t give it up without a fight!
